Discouraging Habits

by on September 4, 2008

Here we sit at 1:15 am on a Thursday morning wondering how to deal with the latest development in Emmett’s “schedule.”

He’s taken to waking up somewhere between midnight and 3 am, and is unwilling to settle down for anything less than a dose of mama’s milk.  At this point in his development, we’re told that breastmilk at this point in the day does little for him nutritionally, and that he is merely pacifing himself.

So, we’ve been wracking our brains trying to figure out a solution for this early early morning feeding that has wriggled its way into our lives.  We need to figure out something quick, because Christina and the breastmilk go on call in a short two weeks.

Pray harder.

    will pray

  3. we’ll come down and play with him this weekend

  4. Auntie Elaine said to just give the kid some water. When they realize they don’t get milk and just get water, they won’t wake up anymore…I can’t say that I’ve tried it, but that’s what your (C-tiner) K-Ma told me once. =) We’ll pray for you!

I’m not sure which Auntie Elaine suggested water, which is ok, but this auntie E thinks that Em is smart enough and given the “opportunity” will self-pacify, whether it’s sucking on his hand, his lips, flipping himself over, smelling some familiar smells, etc. Also he can be waking up due to sharp teething pains, and needs to nurse to calm and help him get past the pain. Nate, your mom use to let you cry it out and you’re not too emotionally scarred, i think.
