Celebrating our nation’s independence by looking at some animals

Goong Goong and Pau Pau are in town!  Christina was on call (again), so the rest of us spent the afternoon at the zoo!

I know that the posts to this blog have been few and far between, but we’ve been pretty busy what with getting ready to move and everything.  I’ll get back into rhythm after we move in August.

Quick update on what’s going on:

  • We’re moving! (Just across town)
  • We’re going to Kansas City!
  • Christina is no longer an intern!  She’s a SECOND YEAR resident (everybody with me, “ooooOOOOoooo.”)
  • Emmett is learning to talk!  (I’ll get a video up soon.)

That is all.

PoTW 5/30 – 6/5: I realize I’ve been remiss…

5 06 2009

… but it’s been crazy around here.

This week, we went to the LA Zoo with Adam, Timmy, and Micah Noritake.  While we were walking around the zoo, Emmett chose Timmy as his best friend du jour.  Whenever we moved from animal to animal, Emmett would look around for Timmy to hold his hand.  This was great for me, because I didn’t have to worry (as much) about Emmett wandering off by himself.  Wherever Timmy went, Emmett was there, too.

We’ll see if he remembers him next time we see the Noritakes.

Zoo with Yee Yee

16 04 2009

Yee Yee was in town, Mommy was on call.  What are we going to do?

To the zoo!  Yee Yee, when she’s been around, has been Emmett’s bestest best friend.  She’s SUPER cool.  Mommy and Daddy are not so cool anymore. An interesting development for this time at the zoo is that Emmett is now able to identify certain animals either by vocalization or by sign.  Some of them are inaccurate, but they’re all pretty funny.

Meerkat = "Mao Mao" (Cat)

Kangaroo = Tao Jai (Rabbit)

Kangaroo = "Tao Jai" (Rabbit)

Gorilla = Mah Lao (Monkey)

Gorilla = "Mah Lao" (Monkey)

Zebra = Mah (Horse)

Zebra = "Mah" (Horse)

Camel = Mah

Camel = "Mah"

Whatever this thing is = Mah

Whatever this thing is = "Mah"

Giraffe = Cheung Gang Lok

Giraffe = "Cheung Gang Lok" (Long Necked Animal)

Tortise = Woo Gwai

Tortise = "Woo Gwai"

Tapir = Juu Juu (Pig)

Tapir = "Juu Juu" (Pig)

Tiger = Mao Mao (Cat)

And, of course, the usual goofiness ensued:

PoTW 3/07 – 3/13

13 03 2009

The highlight of the week was our first visit to the LA Zoo.  Since the last visit to the Aquarium, Emmett has been more and more willing to walk around by himself (sometimes demanding to).  This week’s PoTW is Emmett taking a break after walking pretty much all over the zoo.
